You keep a-knockin’ but you can’t come in – because I’m not asking you to

Time and again I hear marketers and PR folks in the HR marketplace insist that hits to their website and media placements are the true fruits of their lead-generation labor.

Come again?

Unless you’re generating ad revenue from millions of visitors, website traffic is only part of the answer, and in and of itself means little.

Are you capturing those leads visiting your site? Are you offering content downloads, Webinar signups, or free online demos? If not, then just getting the phantom buyers to the door is futile; you’ve got to invite them in and have a conversation with them.

Media placements also mean little if you’re looking to target your buyers directly and generate leads; your HR buyers are finding you online, not from reading The Wall Street Journal.

Of course, traditional marketing and PR activities are still valuable and should be part of your marketing plan.

But applying online viral marketing strategies is where you’ll generate more visibility, website traffic, sales leads and also improve your overall SEO.
