Bringing Social Networking Features to HR Software

I saw this press release sent through HRmarketer.com titled "HireAbility.com and Akken Integrate Social Networking with Powerful Staffing and Recruiting Software".

I had to smile.

As we've written about many times on this blog, it is our opinion that as social networking becomes more mainstream, these technologies will be adopted by many established HR software suppliers and at some point the features associated with social networking will become a ‘commodity function’ on the Internet and get tacked on to existing sites.

So, I am thrilled to see HireAbility and Akken implementing social networking functionality into their platform. I'm sure we'll see many more announcements like this from other HR software vendors in 2008.

Us included.

We're not just talking about this stuff, we're doing it. In a few weeks, HRmarketer.com will make a major announcement on the release of a new HRmarketer.com platform - one that incorporates social networking features. With the launch of our new platform we believe we are raising the bar and setting a new standard for all HR software vendors in terms of using Web 2.0 technologies to enhance the user experience.

Bold statement but once we launch I think you'll agree. Some of our new features include:

  1. New "Alert" system that allows HRmarketer members to customize their welcome page modules (dashboard) to see only the information and Alerts important to their organization. Members can also select how they wish to receive Alerts and information - on their Dashboard, via Email, desktop Widgets or RSS. We'll have over 20 different types of alerts including speaking opportunity deadlines, editorial calendar opportunities, award competition reminders and notices of new journalists covering the HR/workforce marketplace.
  2. A new blogs database, including a built-in RSS feed reader application to quickly monitor recent postings from hundreds of human resource blogs. And the ability to add your own.
  3. Improvements to the social networking capabilities of HRmarketer.com, including the ability to post comments and reviews of events, journalists, analysts and media outlets.
  4. Updated supplier profiles allowing members of HRmarketer.com to showcase their company to thousands of HR decision makers including the ability to syndicate content (e.g., white papers) to generate leads and enhance their web site's SEO.
Really cool stuff. Stay tuned.
